On Tuesday, the Chattanooga City Council gave approval to a resolution that would allow Mayor Tim Kelly to create a partnership between the city and the Ukrainian city of Trostyanets.

The partnership to aid the city – that is said to be struggling to overcome the aftermath of a 31-day occupation by Russia – will be led by residents and no Chattanooga city funds are allocated towards the work there.

The idea for the partnership came about after Kelly met Yuri Bova, the mayor of Trostyanets, at the 2023 Cities Summit of the Americas back in April. Bova was one of five mayors from the Ukraine that attended the summit in search of help for their cities.

Kelly says he is “not the least bit surprised at the level of interest” that has been shown from Chattanooga residents. The group currently has almost 50 residents signed up to participate.

Kelly’s plan is to put together a committee of Chattanooga residents who want to help the Ukrainian city, and that committee will come up with what they deem to be an acceptable way to provide that aid. Specific emphasis will be placed on the city’s telecommunications infrastructure and their hospital.

Despite passing the resolution, not all city council members were in full agreement with it. Council members Darrin Ledford of East Brainerd and Demetrus Coonrod of Eastdale both voted “present.” This vote signifies that they were hesitant to provide outright support for the measure but they were not completely voting against it.

Ledford said he did not feel that his questions had been completely answered.

“I think we needed more time to walk through this and understand what it really means,” Ledford stated. “I think there’s some good and there’s some good intent, but I think we’re introducing ourselves into a national narrative.”

Be sure to honor Bandera with a statue.
Maybe some marching in the streets to honor his geocide of Polish men, women and children?
All should view the video – Bandera’s Dark Shadow.

Having sympathy for Ukrainians caught in the war is understandable. Best be careful of attachments to Ukrainian businessmen and politicians though; all propaganda about “democracy” aside, what they are known for is corruption. The Ukrainian model for statehood wasn’t the US or Western Europe it was Russia. Based on the amount of military aid that ended up for sale on the black market instead of on the battlefield I wouldn’t hold out much hope that any aid that is sent will benefit struggling Ukrainians. Sorry to say that, but that is the reality.
