Two West Tennessee men are facing charges after Metro Nashville Police observed them participating in what appeared to be drug transactions.
According to police reports, 31-year-old Demetris Williams and 22-year-old Jaylan Johnson were arrested last Tuesday.
Officers initially noticed a white Honda Accord arriving at the Mapco gas station on Linbar Drive in South Nashville. Johnson got out of the Honda wearing a black crossbody bag and interacted with an individual in a nearby white sedan. They observed Johnson reaching into his bag and “engaging in what appeared to be hand-to-hand transactions.”
Officers suspected that a drug deal had taken place, so they trailed the Honda to a Waffle House located nearby. At that location, they saw several different individuals enter the backseat of the car at varying times. They only remained in the vehicle for a short period of time.
Because officers believed they had witnessed a series of drug deals, they stopped the vehicle. The occupants had the crossbody bag and a digital scale sitting in the open. Police could smell marijuana.
According to MNPD reports, the crossbody held 65 grams of cocaine and 8.36 grams of meth. A second bag had 29 grams of marijuana, 226 grams of meth, and 10.33 grams of blue M30 pills that tested positive for fentanyl in the field. A third bag was found to have 39 grams of marijuana, 3.5 grams of MDMA, Over 6 grams of cocaine, seven M30 pills, and meth.
In addition to the drugs and paraphernalia, officers also found two loaded guns in the car, a Shark custom AR-15 and a Taurus pistol.
Williams, a convicted felon from Memphis, was charged with two counts of felon in possession of a handgun, two counts of possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, and possession of meth.
Johnson originally provided police with a false name, birth date, and social security number but was found to be a convicted felon from Fayette County. He is charged with the same weapon and drug charges but was also charged with criminal impersonation.
Both men are being held in the Metro Jail, Williams with a bond of $101,000 and Johnson with a bond of $102,000.
