A Teacher from Stone Memorial High School in Crossville, Tennessee is facing a felony charge of reckless endangerment after allegedly threatening students in his classroom last week.

Crossville Police identified the teacher as 56-year-old James Edward Greene of Cookeville. The school’s website lists him as teaching Web Design I and II, computer science foundations, and coding in Python.

On November 13th, a parent reported to the SMHS school resource officer that Greene had made threats towards a student. According to an arrest warrant, Greene is accused of holding “an edged weapon” near a student’s neck “in a threatening manner.”

The warrant goes on to state, “This student was not following directions of the teacher and the teacher had become irate with him and retrieved the knife that he used to prepare his lunch from his desk and made the threat to the student.”

Crossville Police Captain Brian Eckelson said in a press release, “There were approximately 14 students in the classroom when the incident occurred. No injuries were reported.”

Greene was arrested without incident and charged with reckless endangerment, a Class E felony in Tennessee.

According to police, the Cumberland County Board of Education suspended Greene pending further investigation; he is also prohibited from entering any school system property.

Greene’s bond was set at $40,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 16th.
