Democrat State Representative Sues Tennessee With Intent To Block Abortion Trafficking Law

State Representative Aftyn Behn (D-Nashville-District 51) filed a lawsuit Monday, challenging a new Tennessee law that makes it illegal for adults to assist minors with obtaining an abortion without parental consent.
Behn filed the lawsuit in federal court, along with abortion advocate Rachel Welty, challenging the constitutionality of the legislation. The pair claims that wording in the law is “unconstitutionally vague” and that the law violates First Amendment rights by criminalizing certain speech.
The lawsuit lists 11 Middle Tennessee district attorneys as defendants, saying that they failed to respond to Welty’s requests for an explanation of exactly what would be illegal under the new law.
Incidentally, the lawsuit was filed on the second anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, a move that allowed states to create their own laws regarding abortions.
The new law is set to go into effect on July 1. It was passed by state legislators during the most recent General Assembly. The law will make it a Class A misdemeanor for any adult to intentionally help a minor to obtain an abortion. It is punishable by almost a year in jail.
A federal judge has issued a temporary block on a similar law that was passed in Idaho last year after a lawsuit was filed against that legislation.
During discussions of the legislation, Behn was referenced by the bill’s sponsor for a social media post she made, offering to help minors go out-of-state for an abortion.
“Unfortunately, there’s even a member of this body that recently tweeted out, ‘I welcome the opportunity to take a young person out of state who wants to have an abortion, even if it lands me in jail,’” stated Representative Jason Zachary (R-Knoxville-District 14). “That is what recruitment looks like.”
Behn has a history of attempting to rock the boat on a number of issues. Prior to being elected to finish the term of former State Representative Bill Beck last year, Behn worked as an activist, organizing protests and lobby days. She was kicked out of the House chambers by former Speaker Glen Casada a few years ago.
Behn will face independent candidate Jeff Ketelsen (who initially registered as a Republican candidate) in the general election in November. There are no registered GOP candidates running against Behn.
The state has the constitutional authority over such matters not the federal government. THAT is why Roe v Wade was overturned. The state and the people of this state have spoken. Check out this woman’s background people. IN MY OPINION she is against everything America stands for. Again, in my opinion she is a flat out communist. She led a team in Tennessee targeting Trump (the Trump agenda) and other conservative candidates. The group was called INDIVISIBLE. I believe the group started in CA and their goal was to take down the Trump agenda. They had a handbook (which I have) called INDIVISBLE: A Practical Guide for Resisting The Trump Agenda (in my opinion they basically stood against an America first agenda) INDIVISBLE also claimed solidarity with Black Lives Matter. i do not believe she cares one lick about the people of Tennessee. She has an agenda and the agenda is what motivates her and others like her. Is this truly the kind of legislator the people of Nashville voted for? I surely hope you think twice about sending her back to our TN Assembly. She is not the only one……..we have at least 4 others that are on the same wavelength and pushing the same agenda as her and they all need to be voted out of office.
Amen sister. People better be careful who they vote for! They are after Christians and Conservatives. We are the only ones fighting against these communists. When we are out of their way the people that voted for these evil politicians will be in their crosshairs. Then what will they do? They will be slaves to their masters.
