According to a source that contacted The Tennessee Conservative on Friday, the drag queen brunches at Buzzed Wings allowed children to be present for the events despite selling tickets that required attendees to be at least 21-years of age.
State lawmakers passed legislation in 2023 that created a violation for persons who engage in “adult cabaret performance on public property or in a location where the adult cabaret performance could be viewed by a person who is not an adult.”
The statute defines an “adult cabaret performance” as a performance “in a location other than an adult cabaret that features topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to the prurient interest, or similar entertainers, regardless of whether or not performed for consideration.”
The District Attorney was made aware of what was transpiring at the brunches, and a warning was sent over possible violation of the law.
According to our source, despite this warning, the brunches continued with children being in attendance.

The statute is unconstitutional. It suggests that drag performances appeal to “a prurient interest.” How so, exactly? “Prurient” is defined as having or encouraging an excessive interest in sexual matters. I understand how this might apply to strippers. But the only thing that differentiates a drag performer from someone singing karaoke is the costume. Any teenage girl can go into a public park and lip-sync to Taylor Swift songs, and no one would care. But if a man does this while wearing a wig and a sequined gown, it suddenly appeals to “a prurient interest?” Certainly not to anyone I know. There is nothing inherently obscene about drag. And if a parent wants to take her kids to a drag brunch, it is absolutely none of your business.
You are comparing apples to oranges in your statement about “Any teenage girl can go into a public park and lip-sync to Taylor Swift songs, and no one would care. But if a man does this while wearing a wig and a sequined gown, it suddenly appeals to “a prurient interest?” You are right about a girl lip-sync to Taylor Swift but when a man dresses up as a deranged clown acting seductive to young children that is being perverted. Enough said.
