Despite the fact that the Centers for Disease Control has now relaxed COVID-19 guidance even further, one Tennessee university is still requesting the authority to mandate vaccines.

According to the most recently released guidance from the CDC, it is no longer recommended that individuals quarantine after exposure to COVID-19 and they are no longer pushing for testing of individuals with no symptoms. They have also updated the protocols for how schools handle COVID-19.

CDC’s Dr. Greta Massetti says, “This guidance acknowledges that the pandemic is not over, but also helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives. We know COVID-19 is here to stay.”

Dr. Marcus Plescia, chief medical officer for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials says that this shows their increased focus on allowing individuals to make their own personal decisions regarding their healthcare.

“That is consistent with where we are in the pandemic right now,” Plescia stated. “I don’t really think there are many state or local jurisdictions that are feeling they’re going to need to start making mandates.”

Apparently East Tennessee State University officials have not yet acquiesced to this new guidance, even though their latest push claims to use the CDC as a guideline.

ETSU filed a request for a rulemaking hearing on July 1, asking that they be given the power to set their own vaccine mandates in the case of an outbreak of any communicable disease.

The request adds the following to the school’s student immunization requirements: “Unless otherwise exempted by this rule or by other law, additional immunizations may be required in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended immunization schedule in response to an epidemic, pandemic, or emergent communicable disease outbreak.”

  1. This authority is something NO one should have must less a liberal university. Nothing but a POWER trip. Especially on vaccines that are unproven and little to no data on the long term effects of.

  2. A vaccine is a cure for a disease or ailment. Just because the powers that be decided to change the definition to suit their agenda doesn’t change the fact this particular drug neither cures or prevents you from contracting Covid multiple times. That, in itself proves the request is nothing more than another liberal power grab.
