Tennessee Conservative News Staff –

A tractor trailer loaded down with drugs intended for the Knoxville area was detained by members of the West Tennessee Drug Task Force on Tuesday.

Agents of the Task Force conducted a traffic stop on the truck early Tuesday morning as it travelled along I-40 in Haywood County.

A K-9 officer detected the presence of narcotics, so a search of the vehicle was initiated. A secret compartment was found in the cargo hold.

Agents found 16 pounds of fentanyl in the secret compartment, along with a bottle of Xylazine, a liquid horse tranquilizer that is frequently mixed with fentanyl.

The wholesale value of the discovered drugs is around $80,000 while the street value could top closer to $500,000.

According to a press release, officers were alerted to the transportation of the drugs from Compton, California. The driver of the truck is said to have been cooperative with the investigation, and officers do not believe that individual had any knowledge of the secret compartment or the drugs.

The investigation is ongoing.
