The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has formally indicted Valerie Greene, a former Sullivan County deputy court clerk on felony charges after an investigation requested by the District Attorney Pro Tem revealed that Greene had unlawfully tampered with electronic records twice in an attempt to seal documents related to her own criminal history.

On October 9th, a Sullivan County Grand Jury returned a 10-count indictment charging Greene with the following:

– 2 counts of tampering with governmental records

– 2 counts of violation of the Tennessee Personal and Commercial Computer Act of 2003

– 6 counts of official misconduct

D. Michael Dunavant, who requested the investigation, was appointed by the Court as District Attorney General Pro Tem after the 2nd Judicial District Attorney General, Barry Staubus, recused himself from the case.

Greene surrendered herself to authorities and was booked into the Sullivan County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

The TBI reiterates that the charges and allegations are not evidence, merely accusations of criminal conduct, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
