The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –
Cleveland State Community College in Bradley County, Tennessee was placed on lockdown earlier this week after the Collegedale Police Department (CPD) responded to a threat made against a student by her boyfriend, Hamilton County Corrections Deputy Eric James Nerison.
26-year-old Nerison reportedly sent threatening text messages to the student while she was in class indicating “that Nerison intended to go to the school to commit acts of violence against the victim and other students,” according to a release from CPD.
The student informed instructors and school officials who then enacted the lockdown as a precautionary measure while Bradley County law enforcement was contacted.
Officers then conducted a welfare check on Nerison who was found at his apartment intoxicated and armed, making statements that he intended to harm himself and others. He was taken into custody without incident, but during the investigation it was discovered Nerison “was involved in an earlier domestic assault.”
Several firearms were seized from Nerison’s home and vehicle as evidence.
Nerison, who joined the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office on August 5, was almost immediately terminated following the incident by Sheriff Austin Garrett, only 13 weeks into his six-month probationary period. As a probationary employee, he is not entitled to a pre-disciplinary hearing according to Civil Service guidelines.
He is expected to appear in front of the Collegedale Municipal Court on December 4 on charges of domestic violence and false imprisonment.
