A homeless man is facing a number of charges after allegedly chasing three young people with a knife in the Northgate Mall parking lot last week.
According to a police affidavit, three teens asked a homeless man, now identified as James Michael Bunch, to buy tobacco products for them at a gas station. After doing so, Bunch allegedly trailed the teens through the mall parking lot, trying to get them to buy narcotics.
The report states that the trio entered a TJ Maxx store to try and escape the man, but he allegedly approached them again when they left the store, accusing them of stealing a marijuana vape pen from him.
The teens emptied their pockets and denied the accusation. Bunch then took out a pocketknife and ran towards them.
A witness on the scene recorded the man running at the group with the knife in his hand. After chasing them, he fled the scene.
Police were able to identify him as Bunch from a backpack he left on the scene. According to the police report, the backpack contained prescription medications and other items with his name on them.
Bunch was arrested and has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
