On January 22nd, 1973, seven members of the U.S. Supreme Court declared that abortion was a right secured by the United States Constitution and since that day, over sixty-two million lives have been lost. HRJR 0765 resolves that the state of Tennessee joins with The Day of Tears, Inc., a national pro-life organization, in mourning for this loss of life.

The Day of Tears, Inc. has two goals. The first is to name January 22nd, the Day of Tears, nationwide. The second goal is to encourage Americans to lower their flags to half-staff to show that they mourn for the millions of lives lost to abortion.

The organization believes that if the culture of America can be changed, abortion will one day come to an end. They encourage pro-life Americans to “tell everyone you know that January 22nd is the Day of Tears. Please lower your flag.”
