An illegal alien has been charged with vehicular homicide after he was involved in a fatal crash while driving a tour bus in Putnam County.

On December 9, 54-year-old Huang Yisong was driving an empty bus along I-40 when he allegedly became distracted by watching a video on his phone and then rear-ended a tractor trailer. The bus was then hit by a second tractor trailer and was pushed into another lane, where it was then hit by a Volkswagen Jetta.

The driver of the second tractor trailer, 31-year-old Kerry Smith of Cleveland, Tennessee, was killed in the accident. Both Yisong and the driver of the Volkswagen were injured.

Yisong, a Chinese national, is an illegal alien who allegedly admitted to U.S. Border Patrol Agents in 2023 that he had entered the country illegally by crossing into the U.S. from Mexico. He was released with work papers and a social security card and was able to get a Class B commercial driver’s license from the state of New York, a “sanctuary state,” earlier this year.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently threatened to take away $73 million in federal funding for the state because of the high number of illegal aliens who are able to obtain driver’s licenses there. Duffy stated that over half of New York’s licenses issued to non-residents of the state were issued to illegal aliens.

“It’s not just that Joe Biden let millions of migrants flood into our country illegally,” Duffy stated, “his administration doled out the documentation these unqualified foreign drivers needed to obtain trucking licenses and operate 40-ton missiles on the highway.”

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles claims they did nothing wrong, only issuing the license after Yisong presented legitimate federal papers. They also argue that commercial driver’s licenses are regulated by the federal government, and the state simply follows their protocol.

Yisong reportedly failed an English proficiency test at the scene of the accident.

He is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail on a $175,000 bond.
