The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –
On Wednesday, Intercessors For America (IFA), an organization dedicated to prayer for our government and leaders along with offering practical resources, has launched their Pray the Vote Live campaign to cover all 50 states in prayer leading up to the November elections, with Tennessee having the privilege of being highlighted in the first wave.
IFA state chapter leaders briefly shared on specific issues or leaders affecting their states positively or negatively, prayed for their state, then all on the call participated in corporate prayer for that state. This week, the prayer cycle focused on the states of New Jersey, Michigan, Tennessee, New Mexico, and Arizona.
Tennessee’s chapter leader, Vaughn Cassidy, offered his perspective on some issues the state is facing and how Christians can pray for effective change. He relayed the positive experience and impact of Tennessee’s official month of prayer and fasting in July, sponsored by Representative Monty Fritts (R-District 32) and co-sponsored by 30 other legislators, and thanked everyone from Tennessee and across the nation who participated.
Vaughn asked for prayer concerning the unity of Tennesseans, particularly in the church, as the state looks to focus on bigger enemies and threats. “We can be very clannish, we get along just fine, but we tend to be with our own and of our own. And that’s the one thing that I would like everyone to pray for is that we become even more together.”
He even used a Lord of the Rings analogy, saying, “We’re kind of like the Shire, we don’t know a lot about the stuff that’s going on outside of Tennessee, but when you come against us, we want to get together and fight back. And there’s a unity in that, but also, we need to learn in Tennessee that we can’t do it on our own. We’re called the volunteer state, we’re the first ones that want to get involved, the first ones that want to run into the gunfire, so to speak, but… we need to come together and realize that we need each other.”
At the end of the call, IFA’s Kris Kubal also introduced Pray the Vote.org, an interactive national map that shows individuals needing prayer in categories like election officials and volunteers that will be updated as new requests and information become available.
The prayer calls will continue every Wednesday in September and October at 11:15 A.M. CT and focus on a new group of states for updates and appeals to heaven.
