The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
The Knox County Commission voted on Monday not to support Governor Bill Lee’s executive order that would potentially violate the rights of gun owners.
The Commission heard a proposed resolution that asked them to support Lee’s recommendations in creating a stronger Order of Protection law. Lee believes this law will keep firearms out of the hands of those who pose a threat to themselves or to others.
His executive order also calls for more stringent background checks and faster review and transfer of information by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
At Monday’s Commission meeting, several community members spoke in regards to the resolution with several offering support for the proposal but others noting that Lee’s executive order was an infringement on the 2nd Amendment rights of Tennessee citizens.
Commissioners held two votes on the resolution before finally going against the proposal.
