The Tennessee Conservative [By Adelia Kirchner] –

On Thursday, Speaker of the Senate Lt. Gov. Randy McNally (R-Oak Ridge-District 5) announced his appointments to various public university boards of trustees as well as the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Up until this year, the governor of Tennessee was the sole appointer of these members with the exception of university-selected student and faculty members according to state law.

However, new legislation that went into effect on May 9th gave the sitting speakers of the state House and Senate their own appointing powers.

SB0933/HB0919, sponsored by Sen. Paul Rose (R- Lauderdale, Shelby and Tipton Counties-District 32) and Rep. Scott Cepicky (R- Culleoka-District 64), also increased the number of members on the Board of Regents and public university boards of trustees by 2 members per board.

Under this new state law, Lt. Gov. McNally chose to appoint former Sen. Jon Lundberg (R-Bristol-District 4) to a seat on ETSU’s Board of Trustees.

“Jon’s distinguished service as a state senator and Navy captain, along with his expertise as a public relations executive, will bring invaluable insight to the board,” said McNally.

McNally also officially appointed the former mayor of Oak Ridge, David Bradshaw, to the Tennessee Board of Regents.

“David Bradshaw brings a unique blend of business acumen, public service experience, and a deep commitment to education that will serve the Tennessee Board of Regents exceptionally well. His leadership in both the private and public sectors, as well as his long-standing dedication to workforce development and community investment, make him an outstanding choice to help guide the future of our state’s community colleges and TCATs,” McNally stated.

The rest of the Lt. Governor’s appointments to public university boards of trustees in Tennessee include:

  • Dorothy Lee Grisham – East Tennessee State University
  • David Wade – University of Tennessee
  • Leticia “Tish” Towns – Tennessee State University
  • Willie H. Gregory – University of Memphis
  • David (Dave) A. North Jr. – University of Memphis
  • Jimmy Granbery – Middle Tennessee State University
  • Chad White – Middle Tennessee State University
  • Teresa Chasteen-Dunn – Tennessee Tech University
  • Rhedona Rose – Tennessee Tech University
  • Ben Kimbrough, Jr. – Austin Peay State University
  • Mike Rainey – Austin Peay State University
