A Memphis man who is now suspected of murder was arrested on Thursday after allegedly threatening to open fire on two Memphis schools.
According to the Memphis Police Department, 21-year-old Charles Davis faces a number of different charges following the arrest.
Police originally responded to John P. Freeman Optional School around 12:45 pm on Thursday after receiving a report that an employee had been threatened by the father of her child. The report stated that Davis said he was going to “shoot up” John P. Freeman and Oakshire Elementary School.
A search of both schools left police with nothing, but they later located Davis near Horn Lake
Road and Third Street. He was taken into custody near the 4000 block of Trevathan after a brief foot chase.
Police noted that he was wearing a black crossbody bag, but when they apprehended him, he no longer had it. When they located the bag, it had a handgun inside.
As the incident was being investigated, Davis was found to be connected to a homicide that occurred on May 16 in Southwest Memphis. The victim in that case was robbed, shot, and killed.
Davis is charged with first-degree murder, harassment/domestic violence, two counts of threats of mass violence on school property, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and evading arrest.
