A Memphis football coach was arrested in connection with an FBI bust of an alleged drug trafficking conspiracy in the Mississippi Delta region.
37-year-old Torio Chaz Wiseman was arrested on October 30. He is facing four felony charges for allegedly co-conspiring with 19 others in a trafficking plot that had 14 law enforcement officers transporting cocaine from Mississippi into Memphis.
According to the indictment, police provided armed escorts to undercover agents who they believed were drug traffickers for the Mexican Cartel. This happened at least three times between March 2023 and October 2024.
The indictment alleges that officers were of the understanding that they were assisting with the transport of 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of cocaine along Highway 61 through the Mississippi Delta and into Memphis. Additionally, they also provided armed escorts during the transportation of proceeds from the sale of those drugs.
Wiseman allegedly accepted bribe money for his participation.
He faces charges related to the drug trafficking and violation of federal firearms laws pertaining to carrying a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
Wiseman was hired by Memphis Business Academy in 2022 and serves as the football coach for both the middle and high school teams. He previously worked at Humes Middle School and Georgian Hills Middle School.
