The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –
Metro Nashville Councilwoman Ginny Welsch has introduced a resolution denouncing the U.S. Government and the State of Israel, claiming both entities are contributing to genocide of the Palestinian people.
Representing District 16, Welsch was first elected in 2019 and has sponsored approximately 1,500 pieces of legislation since assuming office. Her latest proposal seeks to blame the State of Israel for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Palestine under the United Nations Genocide Convention.

The resolution cites presumed casualty numbers of journalists, Palestinian citizens, and medical workers in the conflict between Israel and Palestine and claims Israel has “blocked aid supplies including food, fuel, water, and medicine from entering Gaza,” but neglects to mention other reports of looting and terrorist actions keeping civilians from receiving supplies.
Shifting focus to the United States, the resolution declares that the U.S.’ assistance of Israel through military weapons and other financial support and the importing of U.S.-made military vehicles and arms have “been identified as being used to conduct acts of genocide”.
She also calls pro-Palestinian protestors “anti-genocide activists” and states their constitutional right to free speech has been violated by arrests, imprisonments, deportations, and “violent attacks by law enforcement”.
In her conclusion, Welsch proposes the Metro Council denounce these “genocidal” acts from both governments and affirm that the “humanitarian crisis” requires immediate action, including the cease of all sales and transfer of military arms and financial support to Israel.
Furthermore, the resolution calls for the council to demand the U.S. and Israel work to protect the right of Palestinians to “live in their homeland free from violence as required by international law” and cease to call criticism of Israeli government policies “inherently anti-Semitic”.
Senator Marsha Blackburn called the resolution “absurd” and recommended Welsch reexamine her statements. “The Councilwoman has it wrong. Has she forgotten about the pain that Hamas, Hezbollah, and others have inflicted on thousands of innocent people? She should stay informed,” Blackburn posted to X.
Author and political commentator Dr. Carol Swain is urging Nashvillians to contact their councilors about the legislation as she believes, “The resolution ignores reality and risks fueling more antisemitism. It’s time to send your city council member a strongly worded message about this proposed legislation and whether it represents the will of the people.”

Welsch’s own social media presence consists of a private X account with the handle “no pass for fascism”, which only allows users to see her posts after requesting access, and a Facebook page promoting events like anti-ICE protests and encouraging community members to use resources tracking immigration activities and officers.
It also appears she has been highly regarded by Democrats in the state for her work as she was honored by Democrat Senator London Lamar with a Senate Resolution (SR) in 2024, recognizing her as “awe-inspiring” and an “invaluable asset” to Nashville. Since the SR was placed on the consent calendar and no Senator asked to have it separated for its own vote, it unanimously passed 33-0.
Welsch’s condemnation resolution is on the agenda for the regularly scheduled council meeting on October 9 at 6:30 p.m. Members of the public can watch the meeting online.

Welsch needs to resign and has no business doing something to encite more violence. She must want a position on the “Squad” with Omar. Leave Israel alone or face the wrath of God.
Big cities, cancers on the face of God’s green earth, terminally infested with lucifer’s accursed dimmercraps.
The resolution introduced by Metro Nashville Councilwoman Ginny Welsch (District 16) on September 30, 2025—Resolution RS2025-1547—is a misguided and inflammatory overreach that distorts the facts of the Israel-Hamas conflict, ignores Hamas’s role as the aggressor, and inappropriately drags a local city council into complex international affairs. While the resolution cites UN definitions and reports from groups like Amnesty International to label U.S. and Israeli actions as “contributing to the genocide of the Palestinian people,” this framing is not only factually inaccurate but also risks stoking antisemitism by equating a sovereign nation’s self-defense with the deliberate extermination outlined in the 1948 Genocide Convention. Here’s a structured rebuttal, grounded in the conflict’s timeline, legal realities, and broader context:
The Term “Genocide” Is Misapplied—This Is a War of Self-Defense, Not Extermination
Israel’s military operations in Gaza, while tragic in their human cost (over 41,000 Palestinian deaths reported by Gaza health authorities as of October 2025), are a direct response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack that killed 1,200 Israelis (mostly civilians) and took 250 hostages. Israel’s stated goal is dismantling Hamas’s terrorist infrastructure, not eradicating Palestinians—a population that has grown from 1.8 million in Gaza in 2007 to over 2.3 million today, contradicting any “intent to destroy.”
Hamas, Not Israel or the U.S., Bears Primary Responsibility for Palestinian Suffering
The war didn’t start with Israeli “bombardments”—it began with Hamas’s unprovoked massacre on October 7, including rape, torture, and rocket barrages. Hamas’s charter calls for Israel’s destruction, and its leaders (e.g., Yahya Sinwar) have diverted billions in aid to build 500 miles of attack tunnels instead of schools or hospitals. Famine-like conditions in Gaza stem from Hamas hoarding aid and blocking evacuations, not U.S. arms support to Israel (which totals $3.8 billion annually for qualitative military edge against threats like Iran-backed Hezbollah).
This Local Resolution Is an Inappropriate and Divisive Overreach.
Nashville’s Metro Council is supposed to handle potholes and zoning, not foreign policy. Welsch has faced backlash for mishandling via rezoning pushes. Welsch has a history of polarizing statements, like implying Donald Trump “asked for” his 2024 assassination attempt due to his rhetoric (leading to resignation calls) or telling a Trump-supporting colleague to “f*** off” in 2020.
