Nashville city leaders have announced plans to paint a rainbow-colored crosswalk as they prepare for a number of Pride month events.
The Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County LGBTQ Caucus, Councilmember Clay Capp, Nashville Department of Transportation, and Nashville Pride made the announcement Tuesday, requesting volunteers to paint and livestream the event.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 29, and will be located at the intersection of 14th and Woodland streets, across from The Lipstick Lounge, the only lesbian-owned bar in Tennessee. The establishment is known for hosting drag shows and karaoke.
Metro Councilwoman Emily Benedict says the “monumental occasion” will “celebrate love, diversity, and unity.”
Rainbow crosswalks have been painted in other cities in recent years, and the new Nashville crosswalk painting will bring an end to “Pride Month,” which concludes with a two-day festival.
The festival is expected to include a parade, which will feature a float from the MurfreesFurs, a group of “furries,” as well as a YouthZone where drag queens will host story time book readings for children.

You’re kidding me. Why is this even allowed? If a bar owned by a neonazi group wanted swastikas painted on a crosswalk they would be told to kick rocks. If an evangelical church wanted “ Jesus loves you” painted on a crosswalk they’d have the ACLU breathing down their neck. It’s city property paid for by taxpayers, let them decide what gets painted on what and where

You all need to get over your anti-LGBT hang-ups and go after the REAL sex predators, most of whom are wealthy straight whites like this deceased Baptist minister from Texas who molested several young men in his care, Gabrielle Hanson who groomed young girls for prostitution and who actually did time for her crime. These same predators made careers of falsely labeling LGBT people as predators so as to cover up their own sordid misdeeds.

I use to work at Maddona’s which was across the street 16 years ago and we would hang out at the bar, which was open to all who lived in East Nashville. I found more straight people who went to this bar than you had homosexuals. They knew business would not be good if they were strictly a homosexual bar- they never celebrated “Pride Month” in there. They never had Pride Flags or anything to announce that they were only homosexual. Funny how now they are on this kick. At that time when it was only open a few years it was inclusive and diverse- it doesn’t sounds like that now- it’s neither. What a joke. All the homosexual bars and clubs in Nashville are 90% heterosexual; mostly men hitting on hetero- women who are trying not to be hit on in heterosexual bars. People forget homosexuals only make up 2.7 to 2.9 of the world population, this is a lifestyle choice. I know I was apart of it. This lifestyle choice comes from a place of trauma and if you saw the amount of drugs, drinking, and abuse I saw in this little community you would understand why DSM called this a mental illness, a psychosis of the mind.
Who pays for this? If you are using my tax dollars for this then I should be consulted. This opens the door for every minority group to have a cross walk in their favorite bar, eatery. I am totally against using my tax dollars without my consent and if my legislators are voting for this type of pandering to special interest groups then it is time to remove these folks from their position. It is time WE THE PEOPLE were heard from. The best way to stop this drivel is to check voting records on your legislators and if they don’t vote the way you want then you help them find other employment. WE THE PEOPLE have the power we just need to take the time to vote and let your voice be heard, get involved, stand up for what you believe in. Lastly if you have money for this then spend it on our homeless veterans that I can support………
