The Tennessee Conservative [By Kelly M. Jackson] –
This week, out of a large field of 12 mayoral candidates to choose from, Nashvillians selected progressive, former city councilman and union favorite Freddie O’Connell and Conservative businesswoman Alice Rolli as their top two. Now Rolli and O’Connell will head to a runoff election in 6 weeks, where the winner will be chosen in a final vote.
Historically, the mayoral candidate who wins the top spot in the general election, will go on to win in the subsequent runoff. And reports indicate that unless the approximately 100,000 voters who turned out for President Trump in 2020 show up for Alice Rolli, the writing is on the wall.
However, O’Connell has a well-known soft-on-crime, anti-2A policy position, as well as zoning policy positions that favor higher density urbanization, for which he has fielded some criticism. His response has generally been, “The safest cities are not the ones with the most prisons, police, or guns—they are the ones with the most hope, the best schools, and the most economic opportunity.”
Recent data shows that the crime rate in Nashville is 65% higher than the overall crime rate in Tennessee, and 123% above the national average.
Nashville schools’ average math and reading proficiency trail behind the rest of the state by double digits. Data also shows that higher density urbanization directly correlates to higher crime.
Conversely, Alice Rolli’s priorities are based on public safety and the freedom that brings to those who live and work in the city, fiscal conservatism and lowering taxes to put more of people’s hard earned money back into their pockets. As a former teacher, she also supports schools that focus on high quality education where parents are given a voice and keeping kids safe while they are in our schools.
Specifically, Roilli has committed to putting an SRO in every Metro Nashville public school and has committed to taking steps as Mayor to make that a reality. Something Nashville parents have been begging for.
In other news, the Metro Nashville Council saw progressives either keeping their seats or adding more to their ranks. All of which happen to support O’Connell in the run off.
From a recent report on the The Pamphleteer –
• Sandra Sepulveda notes in her endorsement for O’Connell that “…he is focused on building a Nashville for everyone regardless of who you live, race, and legal status.” Emphasis ours.
• Ginny Welsch writes under the Twitter name ‘no pass for fascism’.
• Delishia Porterfield prefers to refer to women as “people with a uterus”.
• Sean Parker is a self-identified Democratic Socialist.
In other words, the Metro Nashville council got bluer, which likely doesn’t bode well for the lone republican in the race. If Nashville wants real change, it will take every republican showing up and casting their vote for Alice Rolli.
We will continue to cover this race as it progresses so all Nashvillians can make the most informed decision.

Metro Nashville is becoming a greater leftist fever swamp all the time. You have to be mad to own property in Davidson County. Those who do so, please get out! Fortunately, you live in Tennessee but the state government can only do so much. You best get out before things get ever worse.
