The Dickson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to residents about suspicious mail deliveries that contain an unidentified white powdery substance.

Authorities say the deliveries come in a small, square envelope that is made to look as if it is a gift card from Amazon. However, when the package is opened, it contains a white powder which they are in the process of testing.

A couple from White Bluff received one of the packages and was suspicious because they were not expecting any Amazon deliveries, and they had not entered any contests for gift cards. They had the foresight to put on gloves before opening it. They found the white powder and called the sheriff’s department to report it.

According to investigators, the substance could be completely harmless, but they are warning residents to avoid opening the envelopes or coming into contact with the powder.

In a Facebook post, the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office stated, “We’d rather be safe than sorry.”

“It’s a little scary to a certain degree,” White Bluff resident Valerie Lorusso said to WSMV. “Especially in this day and age you can never be too safe.”

Another White Bluff resident, Raphael Senese, said, “Pretty scare that it’s so close to where I live. Next time we’ll be more vigilant about when we check our mail.”
