State officials have issued a warning to voters about a reported scam that involves a fake text message related to the 2024 election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Secretary of State Tre Hargett stated that some voters in the state had received a fraudulent message regarding ballots they cast in the presidential race.
“We have been notified that some Tennessee voters have received a text message stating, ‘Your 2024 presidential election ballot has been officially removed from consideration,’” Secretary Hargett said. “This text message is nothing more than a scam, and our office has reported it to the authorities for further investigation.”
The FBI warned earlier this week about the potential for various election-related fraud schemes that would target voters in the lead-up to Election Day.
The agency advised voters to be “cautious” when accepting calls, texts, or emails from unknown sources. They also warn against clicking on any unknown links.
The FBI office in Tennessee is encouraging citizens to report any instances of election fraud or abuse by calling 615-232-7500.
