Tennessee Right To Life –

Tuesday, March 28, the Senate Health and Welfare Committee voted overwhelmingly to send Senate Bill 745 (as amended by the House) to the full Senate for the final vote needed before sending the legislation to the Governor’s desk.

Tennessee Right to Life is grateful for the Committee passing this legislation that will clarify but not weaken the Human Life Protection Act.

The 8-1 vote was taken after 3 amendments were presented that would have significantly weakened Tennessee’s current law. Fortunately, none of the amendments were adopted or even received a second motion.

While committee members voted for the bill as amended in the House and without any added amendments, it was clear that some were not satisfied with today’s action. The sponsor of the amendments received praise from other members who indicated that given another time and circumstance they would have voted for adding exceptions that would remove protections from some unborn children and provided cover for physicians who violate the law and abort children in Tennessee.  We must stay alert!

SB745 will allow the Human Life Protection Act to continue to save lives in Tennessee. TN Right to Life looks forward to this bill being presented on the Senate floor.

Thank you to all who contacted the Committee members. You are making a difference for LIFE.
