An illegal alien has been charged with a number of offenses after hitting a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer’s vehicle while drunk.

According to the arrest report, a car was stopped around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday by THP Trooper Ricky Begley after Begley noticed the driver swerving across several lanes of traffic.

Begley called for another officer, Trooper Amaro Carrion, to assist when he found that the driver only spoke Spanish.

The vehicle was stopped on a bridge, and Begley noticed that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Because of their location and the wet conditions from the rain, Begley asked the driver to ride with them in a patrol car to a safer spot so they could conduct a field sobriety test.

As they were talking with the driver, 37-year-old Jorge Agustin Castellanoz Martinez rammed into the back of Trooper Carrion’s car. This pushed the vehicle into Carrion, who was outside of the vehicles at the time.

The report by Trooper Begley stated, “The pickup truck struck the rear of Trp. Amaro Carrion’s patrol vehicle. Trp, Amaro Carrion was then struck by his patrol vehicle,” the report said. “Trp. Amaro Carrion’s patrol vehicle then struck the rear of my patrol vehicle, I was inside of my patrol vehicle at the time of impact.”

Martinez was found to be drunk as well. He is now being charged with several counts of assault and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, as well as driving under the influence.

He is being held in the Knox County Jail. Records show that he has an immigrant detainer, which means he will remain in custody until he is released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

An immigrant detainer hold most likely means that he is in the country illegally.
