An illegal alien was arrested in Antioch earlier this month and is now facing felony charges after an undercover sex trafficking investigation.

29-year-old Angel Javier Diaz Carvajal was arrested on May 6 and is charged with trafficking for a commercial sex act, promoting prostitution, and resisting and evading arrest.

The investigation conducted by Metro Nashville’s Specialized Investigations Division started when an undercover agent responded to an online commercial sex ad. Arrangements were made to meet a woman at an Antioch motel where “full service” would be provided.

When undercover officers arrived, a man, later found to be Diaz Carvajal, and a woman were seen coming out of a motel room. The woman approached the car of the undercover detective and attempted to open the door. When uniformed officers stepped in to detain the woman, Diaz Carvajal fled but was quickly apprehended.

The woman told officers that she had become friends with Diaz Carvajal’s wife in Chicago, and he told her he had a job available for her cleaning rooms in Nashville.

When she came to Nashville, however, Diaz Carvajal instead forced her into prostitution work. He allegedly made her take sexually explicit photos and then used them to post online commercial sex ads. He would then take any money she made during these interactions.

The woman told police that she was afraid of Diaz Carvajal and that she had not eaten in a day.

Diaz Carvajal was placed in the Downtown Detention Center on a $185,000 bond.

Inmate records show that Diaz Carvajal now has an ICE detainer, meaning he will remain in custody until he is released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

An immigrant hold means he is most likely in the country illegally.
