Law enforcement officers in Davidson County arrested an illegal alien on robbery charges last month.

23-year-old Mario Humberto Martinez-Chavez was arrested on February 11 and was charged with two felonies: Robbery – acting in concert and Aggravated Robbery with a weapon or object. He was also charged with a misdemeanor of evading arrest.

Court documents show that police responded to reports of a robbery around 9 pm on Sunday, February 9. Five individuals allegedly entered the restaurant and held two employees and a customer at gunpoint. They took the victims’ cell phones and forced them to empty their pockets.

One of the individuals also fired a shot at a cash register before prying it from the counter with a crowbar and then handing it off to another individual.

The suspects were said to be in a white Ford F-150. On February 11, officers located the truck, which was discovered to have been stolen in a carjacking earlier on February 9. The individuals inside the truck all fled the scene when officers attempted to apprehend them.

Martinez-Chavez was caught after a brief chase, wearing the same clothes he had on during the robbery and also in possession of keys to a Toyota Sienna that had been stolen in a carjacking previously.

He was booked into the Maximum Correctional Center with a $75,000 bond for each of the felonies and a $3500 bond for the misdemeanor.

Martinez-Chavez’s criminal history also shows that he was charged with Joyriding but that was dropped at the request of the state.

Inmate records show that Martinez-Chavez is now being held on an ICE detainer. This means he will remain in custody until he is turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

An immigrant detainer hold most likely means that he is in the country illegally.

It was reported by WSMV that two other individuals were arrested at the same time, 18-year-old Cristian Javier Diaz-Chavez and 19-year-old Manuel Eduardo Montoya-Amador.

Montoya-Amador was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest.

Diaz-Chavez was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, drug possession, and evading arrest. A small amount of marijuana and a handgun with a blue grip were located in the vehicle near where he was sitting. The police affidavit states that Diaz-Chavez is not allowed to own handgun because he is not a legal U.S. citizen, however, no charge was filed for that.

Police records indicate that the charge of evading arrest was dismissed at the request of the state. He was found guilty of misdemeanor charges for the drugs and the joyriding and was fined for those.

WSMV reported that Diaz-Chavez was being held on an ICE detainer as well, but inmate records no longer show him as being held in jail.
