A viral video circulating on TikTok shows a Tennessee mom confronting a bus driver with whom she was said to have ongoing issues. The mother began filming when the bus pulled up and did not stop until it pulled away. The video has gained millions of views so far.

Tennessee Capitol Building in Nashville

In the video, the mom starts the interaction with, “Please don’t yell at my kids today.”

The bus driver responded by saying, “I don’t yell at your kids… No, I do not. You shut your mouth.”

Cassaundra Rubi posted the video on Tuesday, September 28. Rubi also spoke to Nexstar’s WJHL to provide more context about the issue.

“They come home crying off the bus,” she said. “They used to love the bus. So I was like, let me just ask her nicely, ‘please don’t yell at my kids.’ Honestly, I thought her response was going to be completely different.”

The incident took place in Washington County Schools, and the district said they would be investigating. Dr. Jarrod Adams, the Chief Operations Officer for the Washington County Department of Education, released a statement last week to address the issue.

“The physical and social-emotional well-being of our students and staff remains a top priority,” the statement said. “It is our policy to fully investigate all allegations and take necessary actions upon completion of the investigation process. The District cannot discuss confidential personnel matters. However, we want to assure all of our stakeholders of the Washington County Schools community that all allegations of misconduct are taken seriously by the District. Steps will be taken to address any misconduct that does not align to our district’s and community’s expectations of professional conduct.”

According to Rubi, she attempted to resolve the problem by contacting the bus garage before deciding to confront the driver on video.

Rubi is heard saying, “I’m asking you not to yell at my kids.”

The driver then said, “How dare you tell me not to yell at your kids?”

Before the driver pulled away, Rubi said, “Yes, they cry every day.”

WJHL said they were not able to get in touch with the bus driver to get a comment.

Rubi told WJHL, “Maybe it was because I had mentioned something to her and maybe her heart rate got up. But the way it was handled was not okay.”

On Friday, the school system confirmed that a new bus driver had been assigned to Rubi’s route. However, school officials did not confirm the employment status of the driver from the video.

“I felt so disrespected by her,” Rubi said. “I just feel like they should re-evaluate all of their drivers. Look at different footage to make sure their drivers are doing their job, and they are being respectful to our children.”

According to WJHL, they have asked the county’s bus garage for a comment, or any videos collected from on the bus. As of Friday, Washington County Schools are on fall break, and it is unknown if they will respond over the break.

The TikTok video has amassed over thirty million views since it was first posted.

Did anyone ever think to ask the driver what the child may have done?? When I was young and rode the bus I got into trouble and I usually deserved it. In stead of just scolding the bus driver this mother should have asked what prompted this to even happen?? Parents like to think their children are angels but in reality they are not!

Yes, if you read the same story that I did, the mom asked for the video footage to find out what was happening (quote “Look at different footage to make sure their drivers are doing their job, “). There are too many times where an adult abuses their authority. If there was a problem with the children then there should be ways for the driver to address the issue and discipline the children, not just yell at them. The mother had legitimate concerns when her children’s behavior changed (quote “They come home crying off the bus, They used to love the bus. So I was like, let me just ask her nicely, ‘please don’t yell at my kids.’”). I don’t think the mother did anything wrong. I do agree that after looking at all sides that if her children were causing a problem then they need a consequence for their misbehavior, but I’m not going to just assume that the children did something wrong.
