The Secretary of State’s office released a statement concerning his arrest on Saturday:

“On Friday night after leaving the Bonnaroo Music Festival, I was stopped by the Tullahoma Police Department and subsequently arrested for DUI. Driving Under the Influence is a serious matter, and I regret the circumstances that led to my arrest. I respect law enforcement and will trust the legal process as we move forward,” Hargett said.

  1. Thanks to the lobbying of MADD who are UNDERSTANDABLY fanatical about this matter the limits before one can be charged with DUI are too low. It is absurd to criminalize law abiding citizens with a blood alcohol level so low that they can’t reasonably be regarded as impaired. Of course, if Tre was fallen-down-drunk that is a serious matter and should be dealt with seriously but generally speaking the blood alcohol limits should be revisited and bumped up a bit so most of us can relax and go back to having a pleasant evening out in these unpleasant times.

    1. Stuart, you make a nice sounding argument. However, have you ever observed the consequences of a head on Collision that kills two members of a family. And now we have added cellphones and other distractions to the mix. If the alcohol renders you incapable of walking a straight line, there is no telling what the cognitive impairment be. I say err on the side of caution and learn to enjoy yourself with something other than alcohol. A pleasant evening isn’t worth a death.

  2. It said he was arrested for DUI not charged with DUI. Did he fail or refuse a Breath Analysis or Blood test? Did the police smell an odor of alcohol on him or did he fail or refuse a field sobriety test? Could he have looked and acted impaired due to breathing the marijuana wafting in the air at Bonnarroo? Lots of questions about the vague information given about the arrest.
