During a two-week operation dubbed “Memphis Streets”, the U.S. Marshals Service of Memphis (USMS) announced its Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested 141 violent fugitives and cleared 163 arrest warrants.

USMS stated the operation was a “targeted initiative aimed at reducing gang-related violence” in the city, which yielded not just arrests, but the seizure of 5 weapons, the capture of 14 homicide suspects, and the apprehension of 67 assault offenders.

Additionally, 31 of the arrests were known or suspected gang members, 16 were sex-related crimes, and 16 were robberies.

Between July 14-25, the Marshals deployed six teams of law enforcement officials, including external officers deputized as Special Deputy Marshals, to target gang members and those with violent felony arrest warrants.

“Every day the goal of the U.S. Marshals Service and Department of Justice is to make our streets safer and our communities stronger,” said U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller. “Operation Memphis Streets may have concluded, but our commitment to the Memphis community and Memphis Police Department remains steadfast as collectively, we work toward a safer Memphis.”

Notable arrests included:

• Victor Peeler- 12 counts of Attempted Murder for shooting at MPD Officers on Independence Day

• Talia Jones- Facilitation of First-Degree Murder, originally arrested in Minneapolis, MN

• Travis Boys- First Degree Murder warrant for shooting a man outside the Southland Casino in West Memphis, AK

• Derrion Taylor- First-Degree Murder, two counts of Attempted Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault, accused of shooting three women, one 93-years-old. Taylor was 17 at the time of the homicides, per USMS

Memphis Police Department (MPD) CJ Davis stated, “Collaborated efforts such as Operation Memphis Streets are critical to building a Stronger, Safer Memphis. By working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service and our federal partners, we are able to remove dangerous criminals from our streets and protect the people we serve.”

Numerous agencies assisted in the operation including the FBI, DEA, ATF, Memphis and Jackson police departments, the sheriff’s offices of Shelby, Fayette, Gibson, and Tipton counties, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Department of Corrections, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and Tennessee Department of Homeland Security.
