A team of students from Williamson County will be traveling to Orlando, Florida next week to compete in the International Cheer Union World competition and possibly even represent the USA in Berlin in June at the Special Olympics World Games

The team consists of 8 high school students, 7 from Ravenwood High School, and one from Nolensville High school.

The team has been preparing since September when they learned partial choreography and then provided their submission via video tape, along with video from other past competitions and a written interview by head coach, Kelly Roule.

The video submission is first submitted to Special Olympics Cheer, from teams all over the country. From those submissions it is whittled down to which teams will be submitted to USA Cheer for selection to represent the USA at the International Cheer Union’s World Cheerleading Championship.

Teams can submit under Traditional, Unified or Traditional divisions in cheer, Pom Pom, and Hip Hop. The group from Williamson will be competing in the Hip Hop category.

Roule said they were notified in November that they were one of the teams selected to compete in Orlando next week. Roule had previously coached another team in her former state of Illinois where she lead a team with the help of her daughter Allie, who has a heart for working with kids with special needs.

Because of this previous association with the team in Chicago, Kelly was able to combine the teams from Illinois and Tennessee to form the US National Traditional Hip Hop Team in the Special Olympics Division.

In a previous interview when asked about the huge accomplishment, Roule said “Being able to represent the U.S. is an incredible experience.  We are so proud of the commitment and hard work all these athletes put in!”

In a time when things can feel so heavy, and the world so fraught with bad news around every corner, we are so glad to report on some of Williamson County’s best and celebrate their hard work and accomplishment.

Despite such a huge accomplishment, there doesn’t seem to be any plans for WCS to honor these athletes and give them a proper send off before their competition in Orlando.

The Tennessee Conservative has reached out to Superintendent Jason Golden and Ravenwood Principal Pam Vaden for further comment, and we will keep our readers informed of any special plans to send these amazing athletes off in the style they deserve!
