The Tennessee Conservative [By Jason Vaughn] –

A bill that aims to require schools to adjust their policies to allow parents to inspect instructional materials used in the classroom will be heard by the House Education Instruction Committee on March 28th, 2022.

House Bill 1723 (HB1723), sponsored by Representative Glen Casada (R-Franklin-District 63), requires an LEA’s policy on the inspection of school instructional materials by parents and legal guardians of students enrolled in the LEA to allow a student’s parent or legal guardian to check out from the student’s school one set of the instructional materials used in the student’s classroom for a period of no less than 48 hours to allow the parent or legal guardian time to inspect the materials. – Amends TCA Title 49.

The bill was recommended for passage by the House Education Instruction Subcommittee on February 22nd.

  1. Something definitely needs to be done regarding the attitude of education administrators toward parents and curriculum. I attended an event last week in Blount County to look over curriculum and found out very quickly that this wasn’t at all about parents approving curriculum but was all about the school “selling” their choices to parents and simply answering questions about the curriculum. My concerns regarding some of the choices were met with defensive replies with no intention of making any adjustments based on parents’ thoughts. Parents need to wake up and realize they have no say at all in what is being taught, and the people they’ve elected have little regard for their opinions. I’m glad I homeschooled all of mine.
