The Memphis Museum of Science and History (MOSH) is wrapping up its “Summer of Pride” with a Drag Queen show and dance party to which children are also invited.

MOSH has played host to a traveling LGBTQ exhibit for the past three months, in addition to “celebrating” with R-rated movies; panelist discussions in partnership with Rhodes College; and 21+ events involving alcohol, men dressed up as nuns and lab experiments.

Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement, a national traveling exhibit from Washington, D.C., and the museum’s companion exhibit Memphis Proud: The Resilience of a Southern LGBTQ+ Community have been open to the public since June.

Rise Up “explores how the police raid of the Stonewall Inn in New York’s Greenwich Village in June 1969 became the spark that ignited the modern gay rights movement in the United States.” Memphis Proud is an examination of the city’s LGBTQ+ history and culture.

MOSH will hold its “first ever MoSH DRAG SHOW” on September 23rd. The Memphis Proud Drag Show and Dance Party is touted as the museum’s “grand culmination of our Summer of Pride programming and a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.” The museum says the entire event is “family-friendly” while featuring a cash bar, “diverse cast of performers” and an intergenerational dance party from 9pm – 11pm.

Tennesseans who commented on the event’s announcement page asked how a drag show has anything to do with science, or could be appropriate for children. The backlash included several locals who pledged to no longer support The Pink Palace.

According to KWAM NewTalk Memphis, a MOSH staffer replied to one of the inquiries saying that the museum was trying to provide a welcoming environment, and also pointed out that children under the age of 18 have nowhere in Memphis where they can attend a drag show. The message was later deleted but a reply to it can still be seen in the discussion.

Many parents are also dismayed with the museum’s decision as it is a popular location for school field trips.

  1. When you people get tired of “Wokeness”, maybe you’ll change your voting. If not, as the old saying goes, you reap what you sow.

  2. That sure is some kind of Science and History. Every dime of tax payer dollars should be pulled from these WOKE trash upper indoctrination Collages and Universities.

  3. Your PRIDE will be HUMBLED one day. I would suggest that all with reprobate minds such as these souls. Repent before it is too late. Judgement will come one day.
In God we trust not government or man.
