The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –

The race for House District 27 is a heated contest between Conservative Michele Reneau and progressive Democrat Kathy Lennon, and some Democrats in the area have resorted to underhanded and manipulative tactics in what appears to be a smear campaign against Reneau during the last stretch of the race.

Numerous misleading yard signs have been spotted throughout the Signal Mountain and Red Bank areas with sayings like, “Michele Reneau = Defund Police,” “Michele Reneau = State Income Tax,” or, “Michele Reneau = “Crumbling Highways.”

Pictures of these signs, confirmed by the Times Free Press to have been funded by the Hamilton County Democrats (HCDP), have since been removed from Facebook. However, we captured some of the images before their removal (shown below).

HCDP Chair, Rachel Campbell, reportedly stated the signs were created in response to Reneau’s policy stances advocating against accepting federal funding as Michele believes federal money comes with too many strings attached that allow Washington D.C. to dictate Tennessee policy.

Reneau’s campaign responded to these new signs via Facebook, “I thought about defending myself, but instead, since these claims are so outlandish, me and my team went ahead and made a few more options for the Democrats in case they wanted some other ideas! For the record, as the daughter of a veteran, I do support our service members, I don’t support higher taxes, and yes, I do support air conditioning and weekends! Don’t buy the lies. Get out and vote, and when you do, vote Republican up and down the ballot!”

The post also features a graphic showcasing these amusing additional “options” like, “Michele Reneau = Stub your toe every time you walk,” and, “Michele Reneau = salad every meal.” Michele’s campaign clearly feels humor to be the most effective strategy to combat the Democrats’ “outlandish” claims.

Several op-eds have been published by Chatanoogan.com in response, supporting Reneau and firmly renouncing the Democrat claims as false.

One contributor wrote, “They must have received some bad poll numbers and now are getting desperate. I’m sure they will possibly go lower before Election Day with some other scheme.”

This latest instance of “signage warfare” comes on the heels of a similar effort by Democrats who insinuated that The Tennessee Conservative’s founder Brandon Lewis had created yard signs aiming to undermine Representative Esther Helton-Haynes by implying that true conservatives should not vote for her, despite her being the Republican candidate in the general election for District 30.

Brandon stated, “For the record: I would not support a Democrat over a Republican, yet I still expect Republicans to vote Conservatively in alignment with the base. Esther unequivocally has my endorsement over the Democrat.” He attributed these signs to, “clever Democrats… trying to hurt GOP turnout.”

It appears many conservatives are regarding these Democrat machinations as just another ploy of desperation, and have confidence voters will see through the deception, “That’s just what the Democrats do when they get desperate. On a national as well as a local level. Nobody’s buying it.”

Early voting ends on October 31, and polls will be reopened for Election Day on Tuesday, November 5.
