A former middle school teacher in Knox County sentenced to time behind bars and probation for sexual exploitation of a minor.

35-year-old Kristin McKee Brown, a former teacher at Karns Middle School, pleaded guilty last month to five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor via electronic means.

According to police, between December 1, 2023 and March 5, 2024, Brown sent several sexually explicit photos and “material containing sexual activity where the purpose of said exposure is for the sexual arousal or gratification” to a then 12-year-old boy on Snapchat. She was 32 at the time.

When the boy’s mother found out what was happening, she reported it to the school administration.

Brown resigned from Knox County Schools in March 2024 when the investigation was opened. Employee records show she had been employed since 2013, beginning as a substitute.

She was sentenced to a total of ten years, with one of those years spent in jail and the remaining time spent on supervised probation.

The victim’s mother told WBIR, “This has been an incredibly painful experience for our family. We trusted this teacher with our child, and that trust was completely violated. She went out of her way to groom him – this wasn’t a mistake or a lapse in judgment, it was deliberate and manipulative. The guilty verdict brings relief, but it doesn’t undo the harm that was done. We’re proud of our son for having the courage to speak up, and we hope this sends a clear message that protecting children must always come first. No child should ever have to go through what he did.”
