The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –

On Friday, September 5, conservative State Representative Monty Fritts announced his campaign for Governor of Tennessee, citing a need for a major course correction in the state.

Fritts currently serves as Representative for District 32 and has been often lauded as one of the most conservative members of the Tennessee legislature, but is now seeking to affect change at a higher level.

“Almighty God has blessed us in this place, and in our Tennessee soil, and in the Tennesseans that we live around. But unfortunately, we have allowed those in the Nashville establishment to head us in the wrong direction. We’re headed away from liberty, and government is growing,” Fritts stated.

In his announcement video, Fritts offers some of his platform points including:

  • Eliminating corporate welfare
  • Ensuring Tennesseans keep more of their money
  • Personal Freedoms, especially in healthcare decisions
  • Parental rights
  • Control state budget growth and return budgeting principles to constitutional bounds
  • Recalibrate government to a servant mentality and away from lobbyists and special interest groups
  • Suspend power grab schemes and return to verbatim compliance with the Tennessee Constitution

“The arrogant and prideful political class in Nashville will seek to destroy this movement. They don’t really think that we have Creator-endowed rights, that life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. They think that they get to decide which rights you and I, and our children, and our grandchildren get to enjoy. I say that’s backwards, I say we need to course correct to secure the blessings of liberty on ourselves and our posterity,” he advocates.

Gary Humble of Tennessee Stands has strongly endorsed Fritts’ run, calling it “one of the most compelling cases for Governor that you will hear.”

“Oftentimes, when we find ourselves at the polls, we are faced with a classic ‘lesser of two evils’ kind of decision, or punching the button for a candidate that we have much more hope than confidence that our choice will really pay off. It is difficult to find a more principled legislator, and one who serves with more a heart of humility and reverence to an Almighty God. I consider Monty a friend and also a distant mentor. He is a man that I look up to. Hard times call for strong men, and Tennesseans are looking for that kind of leader. We finally have a Governor’s race,” he wrote.

A social media post from last week hinted at the run, as Fritts critiqued, amongst other government happenings, the decision by the Governor and state Attorney General to appeal a ruling which restored constitutionality to Tennessee’s Second Amendment laws.

In the post, he called for a change in leadership from “the gutless, drunken, and dimwitted politicians” to a “leader who will work to secure your rights.”

“I think we can correct this,” he wrote. “I think a LIBERTY & LESS GOV’T approach can reduce the yoke of burden that the Nashville establishment has placed on our backs.”

He left followers with a mysterious, “More to come…”, likely referring to his formal announcement on Friday.

Encapsulating his reason for running, Fritts implores, “We need a move of Almighty God in Tennessee. We need to humbly seek His blessing on this state. Together, with God’s blessing, we can move Tennessee toward liberty and less government.”

  1. FINALLY Tennesseans have a REAL choice. A candidate that actually understands the original intent of our US and state Constitution and is not afraid to stand by his oath of office. He has proved this during the 3 years he has been in office. Monty Fritts is a statesman not a politician. If we want to change the direction of where TN is moving then we need to step out and elect the right person for Governor and Monty Fritts is the only statesman running. A politician worries only about the next election. A statesman worries only about the next generation. Lets send a loud message across the nation. Tennessee is no longer for sale. We may have a Republican majority we surely do not have a constitutionally literate state government starting with the curretn Governor, AG and members of our Assembly. In TN we have a great trifecta taking place. Gary Humble for TN Senate to finally get rid of Sen. Johnson, Jody Barrett running for Mark Green’s seat as US Representative and now TN Rep. Monty Fritts for TN Governor. Monty has a 99% legislative report card rating (the only one). Jody Barrett has a 100% legislative report card rating (the only one EVER).

  2. I was very pleased to learn Monty Fritts is running for Governor of the great State of Tennessee. Prior to his announcing his candidacy for Governor, I was so disappointed that our choices to win were only Blackburn or Rose, both of whom are establishment politicians.

    1. What makes someone an “establishment politician”? Rose has a lifetime Heritage score of 99%! Not conservative enough for you? Even Marsha is one of the most conservative senators in congress with a score of 87%. This mindless labeling any Republican officeholder with a record and a few dollars in the bank as “establishment” is an impediment to achieving conservative government because it leads to our voting for unproven big bucks/no record upstarts in the Republican primaries.

Last time we had an open governor’s race Bill Lee was a perfect non-establishment “outsider” that too many anti-establishment conservatives voted for when Diane Black was the obvious preferred choice. How has that worked out for you, anti-establishment conservatives?

      1. Fritts has a VERY good record, isn’t corrupted by campaign contributions(bribes) from lucifer’s pharma.

  3. Simply horrible news for conservatives! We already have two stalwart conservatives running in this no runoff state, viz. John Rose (Heritage-100%) and Marsha Blackburn (87%). Almost certainly we will have at least one big buck/no record Bill Lee reasonable facsimile running as well. All Fritts’ candidacy will do is further split the conservative vote so, like Lee, the big buck/no record candidate has a greater chance of getting elected with less than 40% of the vote.

Thanks-a-lot Monty! Unless you think again, your blind ambition has increased the chance of our having yet another eight years of the Haslam-Lee centrist/tepid conservative administration.
