Early voting began on Wednesday, Sep. 17 for both the Republican and Democrat primaries in the race to replace Congressman Mark Green who vacated his seat in the 7th Congressional District earlier this year to enter the private sector.

There are 11 qualified candidates on the Republican ballot, though recent polls indicate the frontrunners are State Reps. Jody Barrett, Gino Bulso, and Lee Reeves, and former commissioner of the TN Department of General Services Matt Van Epps.

Leading on the Democrat side are Reps. Aftyn Behn and Vincent Dixie. The other two Democrat candidates are Rep. Bo Mitchell and Nashville businessman Darden Copeland. There are also three independent candidates, but they will only appear on the general ballot.

District 7 covers the western portion of Tennessee, spanning from the Kentucky state line to Alabama. It encompasses all or part of 14 counties including Dickson, Montgomery, and Stewart, and sections of Davidson and Williamson counties.

The voter registration deadline has passed for the October 7 primary election, and early voting is Sept. 17-Oct. 2. For the Dec. 2 general election, voters must register by Nov. 3, with early voting Nov. 12-26.
