Police are investigating an incident in which a Clarksville teacher allegedly showed an “inappropriate picture” on his “personal device” to a student by accident.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) has confirmed that Matthew Vedder, a teacher at Montgomery Central High School, is under investigation by both law enforcement and the Department of Children’s Services for allegedly showing nude photos of himself to a 17-year-old girl in one of his classes.

The incident is said to have taken place on March 9. According to the girl’s mother, Vedder called her up to his desk, claiming to want to show her a picture of a project he was working on. Instead, he showed her nude images of himself.

“She told me that her teacher showed her nude pictures, and she went to the bathroom and called me hysterically,” the mother told WSMV.

The girl’s father acknowledged that Vedder did initially show her a picture of a project but then scrolled to the nude photos. However, the father says Vedder continued to scroll instead of attempting to close out his phone.

“So, to me, she’s a victim, and it’s 100% predatory,” the father said.

Vedder is the husband of CMCSS Director of Schools Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder. She has recused herself from anything related to the investigation or any potential disciplinary action.

Vedder has been placed at an alternative worksite off of school grounds, pending the completion of the investigation.

In related news, Grainger County School Board members have asked the District Attorney Jimmy Dunn to remove school board member Steven Blanken from his position if he is convicted on two pending charges of statutory rape.

Blanken is accused of a relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

Mark Briscoe, Director of Schools, says Blanken is already prohibited from being on any district property, pending the results of the trial. His removal from the board would have to come from the DA because it is an elected position.
