NASHVILLE, Tenn. — May 26, 2026 — Eva Romero, Republican candidate for Tennessee House District 60, has made tax relief a priority in her campaign by mailing a property tax petition to over 20,000 active voters across Donelson, Hermitage, and Old Hickory — reaching voters of a wide range of political persuasions.

The mailer invites residents to sign a petition calling on the Tennessee General Assembly to cap annual residential and small business property tax increases to no more than two percent per year and freeze residential property taxes entirely for all homeowners aged 65 and older.

The mailer, funded by the Romero campaign, is being delivered to thousands of engaged voters throughout House District 60. It includes a QR code linking directly to an online petition accessible at www.electevaromero.com, allowing residents to add their name and make their voice heard with the state legislature. Romero chose to reach across party lines because she believes the property tax crisis knows no political affiliation.

“Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, or Independent — homeowner or renter — we can all agree on one principle: no Tennessean should be forced out of their property due to sudden, unaffordable tax increases,” said Eva Romero. “Nashville property taxes went up 34% in a single year. New reassessments threaten to push costs even higher. Longtime homeowners, seniors on fixed incomes, and young families are all feeling it. This petition is their voice — and I intend to carry it to Nashville.”

The petition calls on the Tennessee General Assembly to pass three specific reforms:

1.  Cap annual residential and small business property tax rate increases at no more than two percent per year statewide, protecting families from sudden, devastating spikes.

2.  Freeze property taxes entirely for all homeowners aged 65 and older – many who have spent a lifetime contributing to this state and deserve the security of staying in their homes.

3.  If a full freeze is not immediately achievable, expand and strengthen existing property tax relief programs for seniors — ensuring those who have contributed to our communities can age in place with dignity.

Romero has made property tax relief a cornerstone of her campaign, arguing that Nashville’s rapid growth must not price out the families who built these communities. “Seniors on fixed incomes cannot absorb runaway tax increases,” the petition reads. “Our young families cannot build roots in communities where the ground keeps shifting beneath them. Our renters feel every property tax hike passed down through higher rents.”

District 60 encompasses the communities of Old Hickory, Donelson, and Hermitage — established, working-class and middle-class neighborhoods where many residents have owned their homes for years and are increasingly burdened by rising costs. Romero is challenging incumbent state Representative Shaundelle Brooks in the November 3, 2026 general election.

Romero argues that District 60 residents have not had a strong advocate on this issue in Nashville, and, if elected, will sponsor a law to do exactly what her petition calls for. While property taxes have surged and families have struggled to keep pace, the community’s current representation has not been effective in getting a bill passed.

Romero says the petition mailer is itself a statement about the kind of representative she intends to be — one who shows up for every constituent, not just those who vote for one party or another. She points to the cross-partisan nature of the petition as proof that property tax relief is not a political talking point, but a daily reality for families across District 60 who are watching their costs climb with no relief in sight.

Voters who receive the mailer can sign the petition by scanning the QR code or visiting the petition at https://tny.zone/q/zozp20735. Additionally, the petition is available for any Tennessee House 60 resident at: www.electevaromero.com. Follow the campaign on Facebook a twww.facebook.com/ElectEvaRomero/.
