The Tennessee Conservative [By Adelia Kirchner] –
Automotive seating manufacturer Adient has announced the permanent closure of its facilities in Maury and Henderson County, subjecting over 400 employees to layoffs.
According to WARN notices filed by Adient and Adient plc on April 22nd and 23rd, the two locations will officially close on June 27th of this year.
95 employees are expected to be let go at the Maury County facility where layoffs started on April 17th. The Henderson County facility began layoffs on April 21st and 320 employees are expected to be let go there.
These closures and layoffs come despite Adient’s acceptance of 3 taxpayer-funded FastTrack grants in the last six years.
The most recent FastTrack grant received by Adient was $155,000 in January of 2024 for expansion purposes in Rutherford County.
Adient also received a $90,000 grant for expansion in Maury County in April of 2019 and a $2,532,530 grant for expansion in Henderson County in April of 2018.
Numbers projected for the expansion monies at the time these grants were issued showed 62 new jobs for Rutherford County, 90 new jobs for Maury County, and 216 new jobs for Henderson County.
The jobs created in both Maury and Henderson Counties by these taxpayer-funded grants just a few years back will now be lost.
According to a report from WSMV, United Auto Workers Union (UAW) Chapter President John Rutherford has stated the upcoming location closures are due to Adient losing a contract with General Motors to produce seating for Cadillac cars produced in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
The UAW represents over half of the impacted employees at the Maury County Adient facility.
Those employees impacted by the closure in Henderson County however, are not represented by a union and are expected to receive assistance from the Southwest Local Workforce Development Area rapid response team.

Our ‘Chamber of Commerce’ Republican governor and leadership will sell their political souls to big business, all while campaigning on ‘less government, less regulation and less taxes’, YET, every single state that BENDS THE KNEE for what they say is “JOBs” has more taxes, more regulation and more government in the end and Tennessee is no different…..WHEN WILL WE LEARN! Big and even mid-size corporations ALWAYS lobby our our political leaders with their MONEY to use TAX PAYER MONEY and BEND THE KNEE financially, providing less competition and more regulation on smaller ‘competitive’ businesses. This is NOT a ‘pro-business’ approach…it is ‘anti-competitive’ and very expensive! There are hundreds of examples of this…Ford’s Blue Oval City is the CHIEF of all criminal political moves and as per usual, they are ‘having difficulty with their products’ which delays everything our politicians bargained for, making it a VERY BAD DEAL for taxpayers. Yet FORD and our political leaders get ALL KINDS of FREE PUB! I’m sick of these Chamber of Commerce Republicans and until we all get sick of it, it will not end. The lobby money is way to good for sell out politicians!
Well said. I knew the Blue Oval EV deal was a big dud. Musk sold Tesla’s as status symbols. They’re simply impractical. I’d like to know about Adient management.
Every freaking penny should be paid back ‘with interest’. 6 month severance pay to employees wouldn’t be so bad either. As of right now, they can afford it. Don’t wait till they’re broke.
