Blackburn Launches New Critical Race Theory Resource Page

Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has released a new resource page for parents and educators, warning of the threat Critical Race Theory poses to American families and suggesting steps to take to fight against it.

“Critical Race Theory has no place in school curriculum. Parents and teachers alike are increasingly alarmed by the left’s push to indoctrinate our children with an ideology that causes more division and emotional harm. We must stand together against this latest radical attempt to rewrite American history,” said Senator Blackburn.

Critical Race Theory (CRT) is a radical school of thought used by the political left to assign racial significance to objectively neutral concepts like history and mathematics. This dangerous agenda insists that America is a racist country and teaches that we are either oppressors or victims.

CRT creates a false narrative of division that pits Americans against each other. In many public schools, activists and teachers unions are demanding CRT lessons be taught in the name of social justice. Against the will of parents and teachers, proponents of CRT have made it their goal to instill this divisive mentality in our children. These lessons are disguised as “anti-racist” but in reality are a direct push for racial division. 

Parents are catching on, and Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs agree that CRT is harmful radical propaganda. We know it is wrong for America, and more importantly, we know it’s wrong for our nation’s future.

The United States has come a long way in its effort to promote and value equality, and Critical Race Theory would be detrimental to that progress.

What Blackburn Is Doing To Stop Critical Race Theory

In Tennessee, we believe in equality and opportunity for all. Students should not be discriminated against on the basis of race under any circumstances. Senator Blackburn has been a leader in pushing back against this harmful ideology. The Senator and her colleagues introduced a resolution to condemn the use of Critical Race Theory in K-12 schools and teacher training programs.

Senator Blackburn joined more than 30 of her Senate colleagues to express concern about the Department of Education’s proposal to offer federal funding to support the teaching of radical and divisive curriculum like Critical Race Theory.

Senator Blackburn has also pushed for legislation to prohibit federal funding for the “1619 Project.” The 1619 Project is based on a false narrative and a stack of untruths and misrepresentations about our country and is widely implemented into CRT teachings.

What Families Can Do to Fight Critical Race Theory

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has already taken important steps by banning CRT lessons from being taught in our schools, but our work is far from over. Ultimately, decisions about what content is taught in classrooms is made by local school districts. Across the country, parents are becoming involved with local governments to protect our children and our communities from the activists who continue to push for CRT. 

If you are concerned that schools are implementing CRT lessons, contact your local school boards. Start showing up to your local school board meetings and make your voice heard. You can find contact information for your local school board here.

If your child is being taught lessons that discriminate against them on the basis of their race or skin color, you can contact the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. The Office for Civil Rights enforces federal civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination in education programs or activities that receive federal funding. You can file a complaint if you believe that an educational institution that receives federal financial assistance has discriminated against someone on the basis of race, skin color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.

Our best defense against the radical rewriting of American history promoted by Critical Race Theory is an educated population that understands our history and is civically engaged.
