A Bradley County student says his First Amendment rights were violated when he was told to remove a Trump flag from his truck.

Jordan Zackman says the incident happened on Thursday when he displayed the flag on his truck while on school grounds. He was sent to the office during second block and was told that he couldn’t display the flag because it was “offending people.”

In a show of support for Zackman, many students came to school the next day with political flags on their vehicles.

“Voice your opinion however you want. No school, no community can stop the first amendment, right?” Zackman said.

According to attorney Robin Flores, public schools can ask students to remove flags, but they must follow federal guidelines to justify such a request.

“That restriction has to be justified by significant interest, such as preventing disruption or protecting the rights of others, and it has to be content neutral,” Flores stated.

However, schools are allowed to ask students to take down a flag without meeting any specific requirements.

Bradley County Schools released a statement on Monday afternoon, saying:

“Bradley County Schools respects everyone’s right to free speech. As a public school district, our goal is to provide a positive and engaging learning environment. While some questions were initially raised regarding political flags, at no point were students’ rights restricted.”

Zackman acknowledged that he is not yet old enough to vote, but he says he and his friends “still have an opinion in this election” and they just want to ensure that their voices are heard.

  1. Denying the students right of free speech displays on their motor vehicle or clothing that is political expression, non violent and in good taste or not vulgar is a Marxist, totalitarian move that teaches our national enemies ways of controlling the citizens, to our students. The “educators” and I use that term very loose in this case, are disgusting examples of proper Nazi or Marxist behavior being applie4ed towards the students. They should be fired and blackballed by the people from being educators in the USA. They have already clearly shown they do not share our values or support our constitution and are patently offensive to patriots and all who believe in God given freedoms and rights. They should have been happy that students were engaged in the political process peacefully. The real protest to remove these Marxist “educators” should be beginning and the students should have their parents support and the support of all who love our bill of rights. Time to remove the leftist who oppose our constitution and traditional values from our school administrations is past due. I cringe at paying property tax because it funds well paying jobs to these haters, perverts and fools that attempt to advance sexual filth, mental illness/delusions, hate, racial division, and Marxism by indoctrinating our children. I support closing all public schools and giving the money to parents and students for educational cost at the school of their choice or for home schooling, as they choose. My wife works in public education and many fine teachers and others work in education but they are being swamped by leftist, perverts and cowards who condescend to that element and the students are the losers. If you don’t understand the bill of rights and the constitution and how important they are and what freedom of speech means to maintaining a free people and would interfere with basic political expression that are reasonable and non violent, you should not be in education for our young people.
