A Memphis man was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison after being found guilty for a number of different drug and firearms charges.
44-year-old Kendrick Watson was convicted in February 2024 of one count of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, three counts of gun possession in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and three counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun.
Police intercepted a package that was sent from Houston, Texas, and was intended to be delivered at Watson’s home. The package contained cocaine, according to the information presented in court.
When law enforcement officials searched the home, they discovered fentanyl, methamphetamine, supplies for drug distribution, several guns, magazines, and ammunition.
The February conviction carried a mandatory 25-year sentence, served consecutively with any other sentences, because of Watson’s previous conviction of possession of a firearm during an act of violence.
According to federal sentencing guidelines, Watson is classified as a career offender because he has had prior convictions for violent crimes and controlled substance offenses.
U.S. District Court Judge Thomas L. Parker handed down a 45-year sentence on August 1, 2024, along with three years of supervised probation. There is no opportunity for parole in the federal court system.
