Another step forward in Chattanooga’s Climate Action Plan was made last week when city council members voted to expand infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Originally published in 2015 as the Chattanooga Smart City Plan, the Climate Action Plan is focused on sustainability, equity and climate change. One of its goals for city government is to have zero carbon emissions by 2040. This will be achieved by an all electric fleet of vehicles.

With their vote, the council has allowed the City of Chattanooga to apply for federal grants to make the city more electric vehicle friendly. Chattanooga is expecting the project to cost $3 million which will add charging options for electric cars and for “alternative fueling.”

Of the total projected cost, $600,000 is expected to come from the city.

Concerned Chattanoogans have said that the Climate Action Plan is Chattanooga’s version of the UN 2030 plan. The only city in Tennessee currently participating in the G20 Global Smart Cities Alliance, Chattanooga has already aligned itself with the World Economic Forum’s ideals.

The city’s project to install eighty-six new smart city intersections is in progress. According to Seoul Robotics, who is partnering with the Chattanooga Department of Innovation Delivery and Performance and the Center of Urban Informatics and Progress at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, this will give the city “the largest urban Internet of Things deployment of its kind in the United States.”

Once complete, the city will be able to monitor over a hundred intersections – the entire downtown area – all at the same time.

The electric grid is inadequate to deal with the increased electricity demand imposed by EVs. To add insult to injury the City wants to install technology to monitor the activities of its residents (right out of George Orwell’s 1984). The Republican and Conservative Parties really need to take back the Chattanooga City government because it’s clear that the polciies of the Democrat Party lead to chaos and ruin.
