Former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry is exploring the possibility of running against incumbent U.S. Representative Mark Green in the upcoming election for a seat in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District.

Barry claims Green “has repeatedly ignored the needs of Tennesseans” and argues that his anti-abortion views and his stance on gun regulations leave him deserving “to be challenged.”

Green, a Republican from Clarksville, was elected to Congress in 2018 and was reelected in 2022 to the recently drawn 7th Congressional District. This district includes a portion of North Nashville and northwestern Davidson County.

A retired U.S. Army major and doctor, Green has been vocal in support of U.S.-Mexican border security, as well as military and veterans’ issues. He is currently serving as the chair of the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee.

Before being elected to Congress, Green spent two terms as a member of the Tennessee state legislature. Last month, he unsuccessfully bid for the role of U.S. House Speaker, but he was eliminated in the second round of closed-door voting.

Democrat Barry was the first woman to be elected as mayor of Nashville after spending two terms on the Metro Council. She was elected in 2015 but resigned in 2018 after being found guilty of felony theft and was found to have had a two-year affair with Sgt. Rob Forrest, a former police bodyguard.

Barry agreed to pay $11,000 back to the city and was sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation. After that probation was completed successfully, the charge was expunged from her record in 2021.

The election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Barry says she will announce a final decision in the next few weeks.

Barry needs to go back to hanging out at the cemetery. She truly does not represent the wants or needs of Tennesseans.

Hopefully she will run. Stalwart conservative Mark Green (Heritage-93%) needs to keep his campaign skills honed before running to become our next governor (imagine finally having a real conservative governor of Tennessee). Another reason Barry should run is that she is bound to attract a lot of leftist money that will be wasted on her campaign that might do real damage if it was used elsewhere.

She didn’t know it wasn’t her money.
