The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –

As the 2026 General Assembly session quickly approaches, State Representative Michele Reneau (R-Signal Mountain-District 27) has released her legislative priorities and agenda for her second year in office, emphasizing her commitment to constitutional conservative principles while defending “Faith, Family, and Freedom”.

On her website, Reneau highlighted some legislative accomplishments from last year that align with her core platforms including:

  • Strengthening legislative authority by adding more checks and balances on the Governor’s use of emergency powers (HB0132) and ensuring those emergency powers stay within the bounds of the Tennessee constitution (HB0324).
  • Protecting Constitutional rights through bills protecting free speech for students who do not use “preferred pronouns” (HB1270), religious freedom for healthcare workers so they are not forced to participate in procedures that violate their conscience (HB1044), and the first step toward a constitutional amendment to ensure crime victims have enforceable rights throughout the criminal justice process (Marsy’s Law- SJR009).
  • Rejecting unconstitutional federal control by ensuring international organizations like the WEF and WHO have no jurisdiction in Tennessee (HB0318), eliminating all references to the WHO from Tennessee statutes (HB1226), and establishment of a task force to identify and eliminate federal education mandates that violate the Tenth Amendment and principles of local control (HB58).
  • Governance by and for the people through enhanced voter verification requiring election coordinators to compare voter registration bases with Department of Safety records to verify non-citizens aren’t registered to vote (Public Chapter 900) and the passage of a Joint Resolution putting a constitutional amendment on the 2026 ballot allowing judges to deny bail to those charged with violent offenses who pose a community danger (SJR025).

Looking ahead, Reneau stated she plans to introduce legislation focused on improving the child adoption process and biometric data protection.

Reneau has expressed concerns about data privacy in the age of AI and plans to file a bill which would provide an opt-out or alternative ID option for individuals required to provide biometric identification, like fingerprints, for certain practices or policies such as certification exams.

She also plans to continue her strong advocacy for policies including enforcement of immigration laws, parental rights and education, economic freedom, Second Amendment rights, and agricultural platforms like “Farm to Consumer” initiatives and food freedom

Checking federal overreach, defending state sovereignty, proper separation of powers, government transparency and accountability, and educating future generations on constitutional principles also rank high on her priority list.

“I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Tennessee. That oath guides every vote I cast and every position I take,” Reneau writes. “The Constitution isn’t a ‘living document’ that changes with political fashion – it’s the supreme law that protects our liberty from government tyranny. As long as I serve in the legislature, I’ll fight to improve and maintain constitutional government in Tennessee. We must never forget that government serves at the consent of the governed, not the other way around.”
