A Shelby County commissioner has been charged with vandalism after allegedly tampering with political signs that did not belong to her.
Commissioner Erika Sugarmon, a Democrat who represents District 12, was arrested last Friday in conjunction with two separate incidents that are said to have occurred on April 30.
According to police records, a report was made regarding damaged political signs at several polling locations around the city of Memphis.
Four candidates told police that zip ties holding their signs had been cut and signs were left damaged on the ground at the Greater Lewis Baptist Church.
According to a witness, Sugarmon was seen cutting the zip ties and throwing the signs that did not belong to her on the ground.
A fifth victim filed an additional report after seeing video of the vandalism on social media.
Police also found evidence in traffic camera footage of Sugarmon removing signs from their stakes and leaving them on the ground at the intersection of B.B. King and Poplar.
When questioned, Sugarmon admitted to taking down the sign at 157 Poplar after the primary early voting was over.
She has been charged with five counts of misdemeanor vandalism with vandalism under $1000. She is scheduled to appear in court again on September 10.

It’s just the dimmercrap way.
Interesting how it always seems to be DEMONRATS who destroy things like campaign signs of their opposition. It is Biblical: the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). They want to kill babies, freedoms, this country, our republic, while working to enrich their power and financial control. They have nothing constructive and positive to contribute so they have to tear down what shows their motives and goals.
