A former East Tennessee teacher accused of sexual contact with a minor appeared in court last week.

39-year-old Tyler Harmon, a former teacher in both Sullivan County and Johnson City school districts, appeared before the judge in a Washington County courtroom last Wednesday.

The judge granted a continuance in the case. As reported by WJHL, the alleged victim is currently in college, so the state has requested that the trial take place in the summer.

Harmon is now scheduled to return to court on November 2 for a motions hearing.

Harmon was charged with two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after an investigation by the Johnson City Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, with assistance from the Department of Children’s Services Special Investigations Unit, found that Harmon had coerced a juvenile victim into meeting privately on several occasions and engaging in sexual contact.

The incidents allegedly took place between July 1, 2024, and November 25, 2024. The victim was between the ages of 13 and 18 at the time.
