A former Middle Tennessee track coach has been charged with statutory rape by an authority figure.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Christopher Grinstead is charged with two counts of sexual contact with a minor by an authority figure, statutory rape by an authority figure, aggravated assault, aggravated stalking and seven counts of violating a domestic order of protection.
He also faces additional charges related to violation of bail conditions, theft of property over $1000, vandalism, and failure to appear.
Court documents indicate that Grinstead used his “position of trust and authority” to engage in sexual activities in his vehicle with a 16-year-old student athlete between February and April of 2026.
Police say there were a number of phone calls and text messages between the pair, including several that were “inappropriately sexual in nature.” Others included discussion of the two running away to Kentucky together.
Grinstead was ordered to wear a GPS monitoring device after violating an order of protection against him. Police say he cut the band off of the device while in Lousiville, Kentucky. He was then tracked using license place readers.
After working at Page High School from July 2024 to January 2025, Grinstead was hired as a “supplement only track coach” at Fairview High School in September 2025.
Williamson County Schools confirmed that Grinstead had been suspended from his position on April 27, 2026, after they were made aware of an investigation against him. He was officially terminated on April 30, 2026.
He is currently being held in the Williamson County Jail.
