GLSEN Sending “Rainbow Library” Books To Tennessee Schools

Seventy-five Tennessee schools have received LGBTQ+ books from the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) since the 2021-2022 school year.

According to the organization’s website, 40 thousand Tennessee K-12 school children now have access to a “Rainbow Library” that GLSEN has provided free of charge.

In order to receive these books, any “full-time staff member at a K-12 school… is eligible to request a Rainbow Library.” All district schools can receive books along with magnet, charter, and independent schools.

GLSEN sends posters and “additional resources” with the collection of ten books per grade, called a “Safe Space Kit.”

According to GLSEN, the kit is a “guide” to being an “ally” to those children identifying as LGBTQ.

Aimed at teachers, GLSEN states, “The guide provides concrete strategies that will help you support LGBTQ students, educate about anti-LGBTQ bias and advocate for changes in your school. The kit not only guides you through making an assessment of your school’s climate, policies and practices but it also outlines strategies that you may use to advocate for change, including posting a Safe Space Sticker or Safe Space Poster in your classroom or office.”

GLSEN hopes that their “Safe Space Campaign” will place these so-called resources “in every middle school and high school in the country.”

Teachers also receive curriculum guides with suggestions on how to incorporate the books into the classroom.

Last year, 66 “Rainbow Library” sets were sent to schools throughout the state. Of these sets, 85% went to schools that predominantly serve low-income families. 52% ended up in urban areas, 29% went to suburban schools, and 20% went to rural areas.

Aware that parents are challenging inappropriate books, GLSEN says “it is important to be prepared in case someone attempts to censor or ban any Rainbow Library books.”

On their website, GLSEN recommends that school staff “Assert Students’ Rights” by invoking the First Amendment which they claim protects every student’s “right” to read LGBTQ+ books.

GLSEN provides summary pages for book review committees to refer to and also lists other resources for members of such committees to refer to when making their case to keep contested books available at schools.

I’d like to know that too. I would also like a list of the books so I could also look at the public library. I don’t want my kids to have access to those! I don’t want access to those!

Passing a mental health evaluation should be required to teach k-12 anywhere. If you believe that your job description includes indoctrination of sodomy or scissoring then you shouldn’t even be around children, much less teaching them anything!

STATS fr the GLSEN website for the St of TN:

    Fall 2022 Sendoff Figures
Of the 66 Rainbow Library sets sent to Tennessee schools in Fall 2022,
85% were sent to schools predominantly serving students from low-income families
52% were sent to schools in urban areas
29% were sent to schools in suburban areas
20% were sent to schools in rural areas

Seems to me this organization is targeting low income children thinking they and their parents would be easier to manipulate. Google- “GLSEN rainbow library books”
