Of the 50 United States, Tennessee is in the lower third of reliance on SNAP, (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). More impressive is that, of the 13.5% of our population that is said to be below poverty level, only 9.8%, use food stamps. That shows some grit, and I admire our state for that.
For those who truly must rely on SNAP to feed your children, God bless you. We all will help, and the Democrats will soon have to break their hold on your bread.
The worst state for those two figures is Louisiana, where 18.7% of the population is below poverty level and 18.4% choose to have the government feed them. Hurricane Katrina was 20 years ago. Things should have improved.
This federal government shutdown, longest in our history, is being utilized by the Democrat Party as power which the electorate did NOT give them. As of this writing, the Democrats in Congress have had 15 chances to end the standoff, but have refused. They want to get a few more IslamoCommunists elected, I guess. The shutdown is their only hope to manipulate us, and they are using those who really need food for their families.
So, “food stamps” have become a huge national issue since the Left has decided to use whatever it can (e.g., hungry people) to hold power since Trump has become President. They could care less that WE elected him to that office, by a large margin.
Socialists don’t care what the people want. Remember that.

The current behavior of the Left should cause a seismic shift in political opinion; but lessons learned can only be truly absorbed if everyone has something to eat.
As a nation, we learned, post WWII, that hungry kids didn’t do very well in school, so we started the national school lunch program in 1946. Families whose breadwinners were away, or, worse, never coming back home, needed a lift, so our US Dept of Agriculture started the school lunch program to make sure that children had at least one full meal a day.
From that sensible move, from a country with a big heart in 1946, to a near-national greed in 2025, we’ve come a long way. Down,, in too many ways.
Today, SNAP is a $100 billion-a-year program that helps about 42 million people buy food. Many of them, as is easy to see, seem to have money for manicures and fancy clothes.
There has not been a war or national catastrophe since WWII, but the indigents on government support has risen to stunning levels. Why?
It has been purposeful.
Short answer is that one political party uses poverty as a building block, to enhance their power, to convince Americans that THEY, the Democrats, are the party of the little guy. The Left has built a history on creating dependence, to sell Americans on the idea that the State should have control of all aspects of our lives, cradle to grave.
This is how the Left convinced folks that they were the “party of the little guy”, which could not be further form the truth.
America has been, through most of its history, a nation of relative plenty thanks to the hard work of citizens who grew up with the ethics of both work and Christianity. However, as our public education became indoctrination, and the rule of law forgotten, some of America began to change.
This is not the place for that history lesson, however. We are in the midst of a possible sea change in our Republic. Our largest city has elected a Muslim as Mayor. Islam has one goal and that is to rule the world under their Sharia Law. NYC was a big win for them.
Zohran Momdami’s “win” was a loss for our constitutional republic. Pay rapt attention to the results of these last elections:
*a Deep State CIA Spy was elected governor of Virginia ,along with a radical Muslim as Lt. Gov., and an avowed lover of murder as Attorney General;
*a Conservative who had every chance of becoming Governor of NJ, was taken down by a number of bomb threats in key polling places.
The Democrats in Congress kept the resolution to release funding, in abeyance while these elections occurred.
Tennessee, I see the strength in you, to stand strong against the national and local threats. I see that in the 4% of Tennesseeans who still manage to feed their families with their own abilities, and in the people who still smile and hold open a door as others enter.
Thank you. Please keep being who you are. American needs strong lovers of freedom to man the decks for our future.
